Is prayer expiation for sins?

Detail discussion according to the Hadith if prayer is recompense for peccadillo.

Hadith Narrated by Ibn Masud: A man kissed a woman (illegally) and then went to the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) and informed to Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) regarding the offence committed by him.

Allah revealed:

According to the Ibn Masud that Messenger of Allah Almighty, Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) quoted the verse of the Holy Book Qur’an as follows:-

“And offer prayers absolutely at the two timings of the day and in some hours of the night” (i.e. the five compulsory prayers). Verily! Good actions remove (rescind) the evil actions (minute sins committed by the individual). The man asked Allah’s Apostle Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) regarding this case that “is it for me??” Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that it is for all my followers.

گناہوں کے لیے نماز کفارہ ہے؟

صحیح بخاری شریف، حدیث نمبر 526:

ہم سے قتیبہ نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے یزید بن ذریع نے بیان کیا، سلیمان تیمی کے ذریعہ سے ، انہوں نے ابوعثمان نہدی سے، انہوں نے ابن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہما سےکہ ایک شخص نے کسی غیرعورت کا بوسہ لے لیا ۔ اس کے بعد وہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمتِ اقدس میں حاضر ہوا اور آپﷺ کو اپنی اس حرکت کے متعلق بتا دیا۔

اس پر اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت نازل فرمائی کہ نماز کو دن کے دونوں حصوں میں قائم کرو اور کچھ رات گئے بھی اور بےشک نیکیاں برائیوں کو کھا جاتی ہیں ۔ اس شخص نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہﷺ ! کیا یہ حکم صرف میرے لیے ہے ۔ تو حضورنبی کریم ﷺنے فرمایا کہ نہیں بلکہ یہ حکم میری تمام امت کے لیے ہے۔
