The flood in Europe: Victims face immense cleanup as waters ebb

People of Belgium and Germany region worst-affected by recent waters flood have begun the vast task of clearing their neighbourhoods as the waters start to ebb.
The degree of the damage is fetching clear, as emergency crews continue to look for fatalities. At least one hundred and eighty residents have died, and with many still lost the death toll could increase further. Flooding continued to cause disaster in areas of Europe on 17th July, 2021.
Rescue
crews rescued residents from homes in the Salzburg. In Austrian region floodwaters
sunken the streets of one town. The fire brigade correspondent said the capital
Vienna saw more rainfall in an hour on last night than in the previous 7 weeks
combined.
In
the meantime in Germany, concern moved south to the Upper Bavaria region, where
heavy rains overflowed basements and roads.

In western Germany, the Government’s official said the Steinbachtal dam lingered at risk of breaching after peoples were evacuated from homes downstream. European political leaders have blamed climate change for the floods. Netherlands, Luxembourg and Switzerland have also been affected by the floods.
Weather
experts say global warming makes heavy rainfall more likely. According to experts,
the world has already warmed through 1.2C since the industrial era commenced.
In Germany, at least 156 residents are now identified to have expired in the floods, including 4 firefighters. The states of Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia have been the badly affected. Thousands of personnel were reported missing during the waters flood, but many people have since been accounted for.
In
the spa town of Bad Neuenahr in Rhineland-Palatinate's Ahrweiler district,
residents were determined to commence the cleanup operation, scuffing sludge
from the streets and clearing piles of shards.
But the task is massive, with many businesses and livelihoods in the town swept away, electricity and gas still disconnected and communication lines damaged. The wine shop owner Michael Lang told that everything is totally ruined, no one can recognize the scenery.
“Peoples had gathered a group of neighbours to begin clearing away sludge and rubble”, told by a baker Gregor Degen. He further told to our news correspondent that he had been ready to go to work the day after the floods, but water levels were too high.
According
to police, “more than one hundred and ten residents have been killed and six hundred
and seventy injured in Ahrweiler”.
In
North Rhine-Westphalia rescue workers have begun removing forsaken vehicles
from the flood-hit B265 road.

In
Switzerland, rivers and lakes were also bulging after heavy rainfall. The river
running through the Swiss capital Bern ruptured its banks on 16th
July, 2021.
Lake Lucerne is flooding into the township and residents in Basel have been told to keep well away from the river side.
