FIFA WORLD CUP 2022 WILL BE HELD IN QATAR |
Doha
(News Update) This World Cup held in Doha Qatar is also being called as the
most controversial World Cup ever. How did Qatar get to host this World Cup,
how were the stadium workers treated and is it the right place for the World
Cup? Such questions are constantly being raised. The treatment of the 30,000
migrant workers associated with the project has drawn considerable criticism.
In
February 2021, the Guardian newspaper reported that since Qatar won its bid for
the World Cup, 6,500 migrant workers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh
and Sri Lanka have died in Qatar. Labor rights group Fair Square says many of
the dead were working on World Cup infrastructure projects.
However,
the Qatari government says these figures are overstated, as they include
thousands of foreigners who have died after living and working in Qatar for
years. According to the government, many of them were not working in the
construction sector.
Qatar
says 37 people have died in the construction of World Cup stadiums between 2014
and 2020. 34 of these deaths were not due to work.
How did Qatar get to have the World Cup in the country?
The
2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has been mired in controversy since FIFA announced
Qatar's hosting in 2010. Qatar is a very small but prosperous country with a
short football history and no record of ever qualifying for the World Cup.
It was
nothing less than a shock to many when such a country beat out countries like
USA, Australia, South Korea and Japan to win the host.
There
were additionally claims that Qatar had paid off FIFA authorities for this. Be
that as it may, FIFA later led an autonomous examination concerning the claims
yet tracked down no strong proof. Qatar denies claims that it purchased agents'
votes.
The
football world cup is starting from November 21 this year in the Middle East
country of Qatar and the final is scheduled to be held on December 18. A total
of 64 matches will be played during this time.
Qatar
has issued a special card in the country under the FIFA World Cup, also known
as HAYYA Card or Fan Card. The special thing is that now this card has also
been approved by Saudi Arabia.
