If sleep is predominant, then sleeping before Isha prayer is also correct.

Sahih Bukhari Sharif, Hadith No. 571

I heard from 'Abdullah ibn' Abbas that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delayed the Isha prayer one night, as a result of which the people fell asleep (in the mosque itself). Subsequently “woke up”, then “fell asleep”, then “woke up”.

At last Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) got up and called for prayer. That scene is before my eyes when drops of water were dripping from the blessed head of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and he was holding his hands over his head. He said that if it was not difficult for my followers, I would have ordered them to offer Isha prayers at that time.

I asked Atta to find out more about the state of the Prophet's hand on his head. How did Ibn 'Abbas inform him about this? Ata then opened the fingers of his hand a little and placed them on one side of his head, then mixed them and began to turn them on his head in such a way that his thumb moved from the edge of his ear which is close to his face and from his beard. He did not slacken, nor did he hurry, but he did so and said, "Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'If my ummah had not been troubled, I would have ordered them to offer this prayer at that time.'

Sahih Bukhari Sharif, Hadith No. 572

And Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to be late in it.

Abdul Rahim Muharibi narrated from us that Hameed Tawil was more than us, he told Anas that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) offered Isha prayers (one day) at midnight. And he said that the other people would have fallen asleep after praying. (That is, Muslims who pray in other mosques) and as long as you wait for the prayer (as if all the time) continue to pray. Ibn Maryam added that Yahya bin Ayub informed us. Hameed Tawil narrated it to me. He heard it from Anas, as if the glowing map of his ring was still shining in front of my eyes that night.

ISHA PRAYER

نیند کا غلبہ ہوجانے کی صورت میں عشاء کی نمازسے پہلے نیند لینا درست ہے۔

صحیح بخاری شریف، حدیث نمبر 571

میں نے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا تھا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک رات عشاء کی نماز میں دیر کی جس کے نتیجہ میں لوگ ( مسجد ہی میں ) سو گئے۔ پھر بیدار ہوئے پھر سو گئے ‘ پھر بیدار ہوئے۔

آخر میں عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ اٹھے اور پکارا ”نماز“ عطاء نے کہا کہ ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے بتلایا کہ اس کے بعد نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم گھر سے تشریف لائے۔ وہ منظر میری نگاہوں کے سامنے ہے جب کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے سر مبارک سے پانی کے قطرے ٹپک رہے تھے اور آپ ہاتھ سر پر رکھے ہوئے تھے۔ آپ نے فرمایا کہ اگر میری امت کے لیے مشکل نہ ہو جاتی، تو میں انہیں حکم دیتا کہ عشاء کی نماز کو اسی وقت پڑھیں۔

میں نے عطاء سے مزید تحقیق چاہی کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ہاتھ سر پر رکھنے کی کیفیت کیا تھی؟ ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے انہیں اس سلسلے میں کس طرح خبر دی تھی۔ اس پر عطاء نے اپنے ہاتھ کی انگلیاں تھوڑی سی کھول دیں اور انہیں سر کے ایک کنارے پر رکھا پھر انہیں ملا کر یوں سر پر پھیرنے لگے کہ ان کا انگوٹھا کان کے اس کنارے سے جو چہرے سے قریب ہے اور داڑھی سے جا لگا۔ نہ سستی کی اور نہ جلدی، بلکہ اس طرح کیا اور کہا کہ پھرنبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ اگر میری امت پر مشکل نہ گزرتی تو میں حکم دیتا کہ نمازِعشاء کو انہی اوقات میں ادا کیا کریں۔

صحیح بخاری شریف، حدیث نمبر 572

اور ابوبرزہ رضی اللہ عنہ صحابی نے کہا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس میں دیر کرنا پسند فرمایا کرتے تھے ۔ہم سے عبدالرحیم محاربی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے زائدہ نے حمید طویل سے، انہوں نے انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ( ایک دن ) عشاء کی نماز آدھی رات گئے پڑھی۔ اور فرمایا کہ دوسرے لوگ نماز پڑھ کر سو گئے ہوں گے۔ ( یعنی دوسری مساجد میں پڑھنے والے مسلمان) اور تم لوگ جب تک نماز کا انتظار کرتے رہے ( گویا سارے وقت ) نماز ہی پڑھتے رہے۔ ابن مریم نے اس میں یہ زیادہ کیا کہ ہمیں یحییٰ بن ایوب نے خبر دی۔ کہا مجھ سے حمید طویل نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے یہ سنا، گویا اس رات آپ کی انگوٹھی کی چمک کا نقشہ اس وقت بھی میری نظروں کے سامنے چمک رہا ہے۔
