Surah No. 3, Muhammad, Verse No. 144

Translation:

And Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah (not God). Many Messengers have passed away before you. If you do, will you turn back on your heels? If he turns on his heels, he will never harm Allah in any way, and Allah will soon reward those who are grateful.

Interpretation:

When the news of the martyrdom of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) became known, most of the Sahaabah lost heart.

In this situation, the hypocrites (who were engaged with the Muslims) began to say, "Let us go to Abdullah ibn Abi, so that he may take peace from Abu Sufyan for us."

Some have even said that if Muhammad (Peace be upon him) had been the Messenger of God, how could there have been murder? Let us now return to our ancestral religion.

In response to these things, it is being said that if your "righteousness" is only related to the personality of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and your Islam is such a lazy foundation that as soon as Muhammad (peace be upon him) leaves the world, you become a disbeliever. You will return to where you came from, so the religion of Allah does not need you.

سورۃ نمبر 3 'محمد' آیت نمبر 144

ترجمہ:

اور حضرت محمد ( ﷺ بھی تو ) رسول ہی ہیں ( نہ کہ خدا )، آپ سے پہلے بھی بہت سے پیغمبر (تکلیفیں اور مصائب جھیلتے ہوئے اس دنیا سے) گزر چکے ہیں، پھر اگر وہ وفات فرما جائیں یا شہید کر دیئے جائیں تو کیا تم اپنے ( گزشتہ مذہب کی طرف) الٹے پاؤں پھر جاؤ گے ( یعنی کیا ان کی وفات یا شہادت کو معاذ اللہ دینِ اسلام کے حق نہ ہونے پر یا ان کے سچے رسول نہ ہونے پرمحمول کرو گے)، اور جو کوئی اپنے الٹے پاؤں پھرے گا تو وہ اللہ تعالیٰ کا ہرگز کچھ نہیں بگاڑے گا، اور اللہ تعالیٰ عنقریب ( تکلیفوں پر ثابت قدم رہ کر ) شُکر کرنے والوں کو جزا عطا فرمائے گا۔

تفسیر:

جب نبی کریم ﷺ کی شہادت کی خبر مشہور ہوئی تو بہت سے صحابہ کی ہمتیں چُھوٹ گئیں۔ اس حالت میں منافقین نے (جو مسلمانوں کے ساتھ ہی لگے ہوئے تھے) کہنا شروع کیا کہ چلو عبداللہ بن اُبی کے پاس چلیں، تاکہ وہ ہمارے لیے ابوسُفیان سے امان لے دے۔
